Blue Scholars- Sagaba

The Blue Scholars are a Seattle based rap group that produce a unique and consistent flow unlike any other rap I've heard before. Sagaba is one of their best songs and I just love the beat...you can practically ride it.

W7, Saturday

Local Natives- Camera Talk

Kelsey says:
Local Natives' captivating harmonies just drag me in. Ps, Mr. Mustache and the waterfall fro kid are the most fun to watch. (the fro isn't as extreme here.)

Friday, July 1, 2011

W7, Friday

Miike Snow- Animal

Kelsey says:
Yes, same name as the former. I just adore Miike. He is great. (Also, Burial, DJ Medhi remix is excellent, in case you were wondering.)

W7, Thursday

Jenny and Johnny- Animal

Kelsey says:
I just can't stay away from their intriguing music. Go listen to the whole album, ay-sap.

W7, Wednesday

Beach House- 10 Mile Stereo

Kelsey says:
Can I stay away from Victoria and Alex, one of the most ingenious music combos ever? No sir. There isn't really a good video of this song out there, but I had to give you the live experience. If I were to be able to pick myself, I would probably be about 76% Victoria Legrand. I met her once..she is basically the coolest person on the face of the planet. But back to business: Beach House produces the soothing yet upbeat tones that I cannot resist, no matter how hard I may try. Sorry that your next hour will probably be devoted to listening to every song they've ever written. Only I'm not actually sorry at all. (ps. I want hair like Vic.)

W7, Tuesday

Arcade Fire- Suburban War

Kelsey says:
How could I make a playlist of my top six songs without including something by this all-time favorite? Usually I rotate through favorite bands, but AF has stuck for so long that I just have to admit, they're my fave. You may need to watch another video of this song, but I chose to show you this because it was one of the most phenomenal experiences of my life. Arcade Fire live....I don't know if my life will ever get any better than that. And, ain't it awesome that Win forgets the words? He's so cool that he can pull it off. This song wasn't originally my favorite on the album, but I love it more every time I hear it. That gorgeous meter change....ah. Gives me chills every time.

Faded Paper Figures- Metropolis

Basically, I went through an FPF craze not too long ago, and I still just adore them. Not only are they a catchy electronic-classic hybrid (my cousin once classified them as Indietronic), but they have intriguing lyrics and meaning behind the songs. Just all around good. I just love all of their songs, so it was hard to pick, but this one won my affection the most.

Saturday, June 11, 2011

W5, Saturday

Within Temptation- Iron

Spike says:
all of the music these guys play is just beyond words, it's like Trans-Siberian Orchestra meets Evanescence, which is weird considering i'm not the biggest Evanescence fan but i've always been a huge fan of a strong female voice and nothing like Sharon den Adel's voice has made me get good kind of shivers in a very very long time.

Friday, June 10, 2011

W5, Friday

The National- Sorrow

Spike says:
This song is what I turn on when I'm feeling down and it gives me a sense of catharsis that I feel everyone needs to feel every once in a while.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

W5, Thursday

Houston Calls- Sunrise Goodbyes

Spike says:
This is a band I discovered at a MAE concert. They were opening and after hearing them I instantly felt like I need to own every song they had out.

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

W5, Wednesday

Blink-182- A New Hope

Spike says:
I can't have a list without my favorite band of all time! The transformation they go through from their first album to the latest shows just how versatile these guys are. Everything in between is just everything you could want in music. This particular song combines two of my favorite things. Star Wars and Blink. Enjoy!

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

W5, Tuesday

Metric- Gimmie Sympathy

Spike says:
The reason the lead singer's voice may be familiar to you is that she sings the "black sheep" song in the movie "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" but Gimmie Smpathy is my favorite song of theirs. the whole album is amazing which is topped off by this song

W5, To Spike or Not to Spike

Not very long ago...

In a Southridge not far away...

SPIKE!!!

Occupation: Tinkerer of toys and radios
Nicknames: Mike, Mikey, MJ, Mymo, Spike, Spikey, Iron Spike, The human **********, Spikelosc***, etc.
Fav Animal: Nyan Cat
Hometown: S E A double T L E
Music Taste: usually punk rock, some stuff that's on the darker side, classic rock, strong female vocalists, basically everything from Mozart to Metallica
Fav Bands: Blink-182, Rise Against, Paramore, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Billy Joel

What's that growing out of your face? Is that an iron spike?

Rise Against- Savior

Let's face it. This song is just awesome. Tim McIlrath (lead singer) is probably one of my favorite song writers. "Savior" is just one of those songs that has all of the attributes of an awesome song: meaningful lyrics, great background music, and lead vocalist who can really belt it out, a bridge that ties the whole song together and a chorus that makes you just want to stand up and yell the lyrics from a rooftop! Enjoy my friends!

Saturday, June 4, 2011

W4, Saturday

Delafé y Las Flores Azules- Espiritu Santo

Amy says:
it's not only this song, but this take away show that makes me want to quit real life, and join a street band. if only i was blessed with any sort of musical talent. you can't listen to this song and not be happy. and if you can, well, i sure am sorry you lost your soul or whatever.

Friday, June 3, 2011

W4, Friday

Black Carl- Hussy

*sorry, no video :/

Amy says:
local band from phoenix, so it obviously holds a place near and dear to my arizona heart. i love the girl's voice, and it says "hussy", which just makes me laugh. there's such a sassy feel to this song that i enjoy.

W4, Thursday

Regina Spektor- The Calculation

Amy says:
who doesn't love a good regina spektor song? i particularly enjoy this one because she doesn't do a whole lot of weird stuff with her voice in it like she does in a lot of her other songs. i'm also not a huge payer of attention to lyrics, but i liked these ones.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

W4, Wednesday

The xx- Crystalised

Amy says:
this is such a chill song, but still very versatile. you could fall asleep to it, or you could make out to it. or, you could fall asleep while making out, i guess. although, just between you and me, probably don't make out with any of the people in the band, because they aren't super visually pleasing.

W4, Tuesday

Movits!- Fel Del Av Garden

Amy says:
swingin' feel, hint of rap, and it's in swedish? how could i say no! who cares if i can't understand what they're saying and my compulsive need to sing along in the car leads me to make up jibberish? gimme some sax and a hot harmonica track, and i am good to go swing dancing down the streets of sweden.

Fav Bands: the arcade fire, lady gaga, florence and the machine, kanye west, mumford and sons, and the beach boys. yeah, i said it.

Amy is a semi-professional blogger; if it exists, she can "Paint" it. Oh and she dabbles in Facebookery as well...

April Smith- Colors

i discovered this song last summer, and regardless of how many times i hear it, it never fails to put a smile on my face and get my toe tappin'. the only reason why i usually refrain from singing along to it is because i can't stand to hear the horrible contrast between this broad's cool voice and my own. woof.

W2, Saturday

Sufjan Stevens- Chicago

Fresh says:
This song holds a special place in my heart because (1) it is about Chicago, (2) it incorporates string and brass instruments, (3) it's mellow and upbeat at the same time, (4) it's by a guy who's name I can't pronounce

Friday, May 20, 2011

W2, Friday

A.C. Newman- On the Table

Fresh says:
Awesome, upbeat song, interesting vocals, sweet little drum riff at the beginning...what else could you ask for?

Thursday, May 19, 2011

W2, Thursday

Modest Mouse- Ocean Breathes Salty

Fresh says:
Modest Mouse's vocals are kind of weird sounding at first, but then you listen to them and you can't get enough, it's unexplainable.  This song is one of many that I love from Modest Mouse, I'll admit a lot of the time the lyrics don't make sense, but they have some cool beats and catchy choruses.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

W2, Wednesday

Killers- Sam's Town (acoustic)

Fresh says:
The acoustic version of this song is sweet, because it highlights Brandon Flowers' vocal talents and distinct voice.  I loved the original Sam's Town when it came out, but this offers an alternative if you're in a more mellow/thoughtful mood.

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

W2, Tuesday

Arcade Fire- The Suburbs

Fresh says:
Has a feel good, care free rhythm throughout the song, makes me think about growing up in a small town...I love the unique, falsetto chorus as well, it makes it different and fun to listen to.

W1, Saturday

First Aid Kit- Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (cover)

First off, if you haven't heard the original you should make that a priority. Second, it is simply impossible to keep yourself from drooling at the awe-inspiring, harmonious sounds coming from the mouths of these two young Swedish ladies. Best cover on Youtube? Perhaps.

Friday, May 13, 2011

W1, Friday

Deadmau5 - Ghosts N Stuff
